Is your Job the best?
This week's "Is Your ____ the best" is about your job. Tell all of us why your job is the best in the world (or why it isn't, if you hate it).I work at the Space Dynamics Laboratory http://www.sdl.usu.edu. My job rocks. I get to play with computers the whole time I'm at work. I get to troubleshoot weird problems that nobody else knows how to fix. It is fun. I also have a job that will let me work around my school schedule. Not too many places will do that for you. I also don't have to work weekends. I think it has happened once in three years.
This job isn't the one that I'm going to keep forever, that's for sure, but it is definitely the best job that I could possibly have right now.

I have a dang good job. Namely, I pretend to go to class and write a paper once in a while, and they pay me. Well, they pay my tuition, as long as I pretend to stay smart. I think it's a pretty sweet deal. Means I don't have to get a real job. ;-)
ReplyDeleteI think that working at SDL is one of the greatest student jobs that you can find. However my current job really is nice and has all the finer points of a great job.
ReplyDeleteI'll admit, I work at SDL too and I'll echo Ken. Not only do I get paid (with awesome benefits!) to play with the latest hardware and software, I have a 'normal' 8-5 schedule. Plus, they are paying for me to go back for my masters at USU, can't complain there! This week I've been designing the new company Intranet (Sharepoint), setting up an 8 slot LTO3 tape library (ISCSI), and playing with a new dual-processor, dual-core Operteron with Serial Attached SCSI drives. What a life!
ReplyDeleteI still say that my job is better than all of yours'.
ReplyDeleteJames,
ReplyDeleteI would like to hear some arguments in favor of why your job is better than mine. :) Please enlighten us all.
I know somebody who gets to spend all day spending all her husbands money. She is the wife of a OB/GYN specialist. He makes big money, she spends big money. That is the perfect job.
ReplyDeleteThat's not a job. That's unfair (but it would be nice to have a lot of money to spend like that).
ReplyDeleteKen, my job is better because:
My computer is better than yours!
I've got more desk space.
I have a fancy unattended XP CD that works independent of a computer's ethernet card and network servers.
:>
Sitting around all day spending someone else's money would be extremely unfulfilling. There is more to a job than making money... some people actually do things because they *like* them.
